The Reynolds' Sabbatical 2001
Yard Work!

Of course, no lengthy time on vacation is complete without the requisite long-standing chores to complete around the house. John's major task between the RV trip and our trip to Jamaica was to build a brick border up around what will be our garden (next spring). We have had an unfinished chunk of dirt in our back yard coming up on 3 years now and this sabbatical was the perfect time to get in there and finish it up! John used border trim bricks and laid them on a foundation of sand so that the garden itself was level (our yard slopes towards the house for drainage). This worked fine for the first layer but starting with the second layer of bricks there was a lot less "play" going around the corners.

In fact, he eventually had to use a brick cutting wheel in his skill saw and slice off portions of the bricks so that they were smaller and thus could be squeezed in tighter as the layers rose! What a hassle!

But, he finally got done and it looks nice. We'll pull some nice tomatoes, strawberries, corn, and green beans out of there next year!

Other notable chores accomplished included the standard cleaning of the garage, rearranging of the office, trimming of the shrubs, and (of course) computer work!
